2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Taylor L. has begun her countdown

Hi! I’m Taylor and I’m a junior studying Speech, language and hearing sciences. I have always wanted to study abroad, but when I first stepped into UConn’s study abroad office I was not sure where I would want to go. I was introduced right away to the Cape Town program. One of the many features that draw me to this program is the fact that it is a living and learning community. When my sister studied abroad, she lived with a family. In hindsight, she wished that she had chosen to live with other students because she found that the students who were surrounded by each other, had a much better experience. I do think a homestay is a very valuable experience to immerse oneself in a culture, and so I am very excited that this program incorporates a three day one! I think that this short homestay will allow us to really put into perspective and understand the history and culture of South Africa. I am appreciative and excited to be selected to participate in this program! Since our first pre-departure meeting, I have started a countdown on my calendar in my room (which saddens my roommate), and I cannot wait until we all board the 15 hour flight to our new home!
