2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Julia cannot wait for this amazing experience to begin

My name is Julia. I am a sophomore here at UConn, and I am currently looking at a variety of different majors. The only thing I am positive about is a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. As for the major, I hope my time in Cape Town gives me the inspiration I need.  I chose to apply to the Cape Town study abroad program for a couple of reasons. One reason is that I am interested in human rights and advocacy on an international level. I would love to one day work in a nonprofit or NGO. My internship in Cape Town will give me the chance to test the waters for what I hope will be my future career path. The second reason for choosing Cape Town is that I love to travel and experience new ways of life. I figured studying abroad in Europe, I wouldn't be too surprised and taken back by what I saw, while in South Africa I would experience completely new ways of thinking and doing so different from my own. When I got the e-mail confirming my acceptance into the program, I was speechless and just couldn't wrap my head around what I was about to do in three months. After five minutes or so, I realized it was a reality and called my parents while they were at work. Luckily, they wanted me to get in just as much as I did and were happy for the interruption. As I get more and more information on our trip, my excitement only escalates. I cannot wait for this amazing experience to start and to get to know everyone going on the trip!
