2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Caitlin's ready to move beyond her "Storrs bubble"

Caitlin, Sociology and Political Science Major, Sophomore

I decided to study abroad in Cape Town because it seemed so different from everything I had experienced before. Growing up in Storrs and choosing to attend UConn means that I haven't really had a chance to get out of my "Storrs bubble" for any extended period of time, and I wanted to make sure I went somewhere that was going to challenge me to see the world in a different way. South Africa's conflicted political history and recent democratization attracted me from an intellectual perspective, and I'm interested to learn more about the country as a whole. I also wanted to do a social justice internship to explore what it might be like to work at an NGO or nonprofit someday. And Cape Town's beautiful setting certainly doesn't hurt! I was thrilled to be accepted into the program and I can't wait to start my journey.
