2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Taylor's crazy week

This past week has been a crazy one for me! Last Tuesday I went in for the surgery to fix the fracture of my right distal clavicle and coraco clavicle ligament. Seeing these words written down made it sound like I actually did do something serious to my body! I have never broken a bone before and I have never received surgery, so I was a little nervous to be so far from home. However, I had great support from all my peers, my R.A.’s Ben and Jess, and of course Marita.

It is amazing that in less than two hours I was nearly fixed. While my body will still have to heal, it was crazy to see and feel the difference immediately. I cannot wait to heal completely and carry on with my normal activities!

At the hospital I met the most incredible and friendly woman named Zelda. Zelda lives in Mitchell’s Plain with her husband and her husband’s mother. I find it so fascinating that so many South Africans house their parents in what is called a Wendy House. It seems that one’s family is such an integral part in South African culture.

While my body was exhausted for a few days, I gathered the energy to go to the Stormers versus the Sharks rugby game. I have only been to one other rugby game in my life and so to say the least I do not understand the game. However, I had so much fun! I definitely was not expecting that big of a stadium to be so close to us. I definitely wish we went to games sooner! However, there is a game next weekend and so hopefully we will be able to go after attending Holi!
