2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

John's developing a new perspective on life

So we’ve been here for almost a month and my outlook on life has already begun to change.  I decided to take part of this program because of the amazing things past participants have said and the way they mentioned this program changed their lives. I knew I wasn’t going to come back as the same person I was, but I wasn’t expecting to start seeing the changes so quickly. Just by seeing the way people of the townships live makes me realize how fortunate I am and it has made me see my life in another way. During Marita’s class we’ve discussed the tendencies we have of comparing “up” or always looking at things other people have and compare them to the things we lack. By doing so, we end up not feeling content with our own lives and wish we could have the luxuries of other people. This whole outlook is completely flawed in my opinion; we need to start comparing “down” and seeing how fortunate and lucky we are to have what we have.
