2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Becca has seen and done more than she could have ever imagined

It is so hard to believe that we have been here a month already. The days are flying by here at Cape Town and it is really starting to scare me. Hopefully I will be able to do everything that I want to while I am here. But looking back at it, I have seen so much and done more than I ever thought I would. Working at Tafelsig has been so amazing, yeah it is really busy there every day, but I am learning so much. To me it is amazing that all the nurses there, especially Sister Castle, know this much about chronic illnesses and other diseases and no matter what case is presented to them, they seem to know what is going on. It is so cool and I am so happy that I get to work there. Even though I haven’t been there for long, I really enjoy working with all the staff and Sister Castle is giving us more and more responsibilities including more about education, which is something that I am excited to do.

I have also gotten use to navigating around Cape Town and we have done some really fun activities. Hiking Lion’s Head was amazing and I am so excited to do even more hiking. We also got to go to the beach the other weekend which made me the happiest person being able to swim in the ocean in January. Also the concerts here are so much fun, from Jimmy Nevis to FreshlyGround at Kristenbosch, I am so excited to spending as much time as I can outside enjoying this South African summer.
