2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Dani was eager to welcome her classmates to Cape Town

I am fortunate enough to have been in Cape Town for a month already visiting family, but the past few days have been a whirlwind of excitement while welcoming the rest of our group to this beautiful country!  Our house is gorgeous, and although Onna and I had the last pick of rooms, we’re very happy with the room we got, as it opens right onto the backyard complete with a pool.  It’s just been two short days so far, but we’ve all settled into the house.  We explored the surrounding area, a town called Rondebosch, to get a taste of our neighborhood for the next few months.

Today, we drove and visited various spots all around the peninsula, including Hout Bay, where we saw a man feeding seals from his mouth; Cape Point, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch (I ate the most delicious and fresh hake I can ever imagine has existed); and Boulder’s Beach, which is famous for the penguins that inhabit it.  I am quite exhausted, but very happily so.  The beauty of this country continues to leave me speechless every day.  A camera can’t truly capture the gorgeous mountains and beaches that surround us, but hopefully these pictures give some sense as to the amazing nature we get to experience for the next few months.
