2015 Co-educators
2015 UConn Co-educators Begin Their Cape Town Adventures

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no illustrations to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Christina says hello again to Cape Town

HELLO CAPE TOWN… again. After the tiresome 17 hours of travel I was reminded of the beauty that made me fall in love with South Africa all over again. Just the sight of Table Mountain alone was enough to put my body in a euphoric frenzy reinforcing my excitement for my journey to begin. First stop, home.  As we pulled up to the house located in Rondebosch I was amazed that the beautiful place in front of me would be home for the next 3 ½ months.  The House is amazing including a pool and pool house with a view of Table Mountain as well. The first morning here, me and a few girls decided to go for a run around the commons, a park located near our house, and unexpectedly joined a local 5k park run all with the luxury of looking at Table Mountain as we ran. Safe to say the view AND weather will make working out a lot easier.

The rest of the day involved getting acclimated to our new surroundings by exploring Rondebosch and going to the local grocery store for the first time of many.  After a great Thai meal and some much needed sleep the next day we ventured out around the Penninsula and hit some major spots such as Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Cape Point, and Boulders Beach. Although I’ve been to many of these places on my previous trip to Cape Town, I had new adventures with amazing new people. In Hout Bay I got to hand feed a seal and in Boulder’s Beach, my internship location as well, I got up close and personal with some South African Penguins.  Being around the penguins was definitely my favorite part of the day and got me even more excited for my internship there. I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing there yet but with a view of the ocean at a park for penguins, I think I’ll be enjoying myself very much.
